Millions of kids throughout our country have several things in common: the ability to see a need, the desire to make a difference, and the creativity to imagine a solution. They believe they can--and should--take action. No single organization or institution has channeled all of its energy to directly engage and harness the power of our country's 48 million children. Until now.

Scheduled to open in 2013 at National Harbor, the National Children’s Museum will carry out its mission to inspire kids to care about and improve the world through a state of the art interactive learning center and online environment. Designed by internationally renowned architects Pelli Clarke Pelli, the new 150,000 square foot green-certified Museum will house some of the most exciting and engaging interactive exhibits ever created for a children’s museum. Focused on six content areas -- the environment; health and well-being; play; civic engagement; the arts; and the global neighborhood -- the National Children’s Museum will allow children to explore their world and connect with ways to make a difference. Truly a national institution, the Museum will expand its reach across the country through an online environment based on exhibits at the Museum and a network of national partnerships to connect kids with opportunities to get involved in their own communities.

Creating the National Children’s Museum will ultimately take a financial investment totaling $182 million and the collaborative partnerships necessary to develop a robust online experience and national network. NCM is engaging community leaders, individuals, foundations, and corporations in this exciting effort to help create a new model museum and a critical national resource for children. Today’s children are tomorrow’s parents, employees, and business and community leaders. An investment in the National Children’s Museum is an investment in our future, in the strength of our communities, and in our country.
