National Children's Museum Volunteer Opportunity at Crystal Run

On October 25, 2009, volunteers are invited to lend a hand with the National Children’s Museum (NCM) at the Marine Corps Marathon Crystal Run. NCM will provide hands-on activities throughout the day at Crystal Run, the convenient festival location for families to cheer on their runners as they reach miles 22 and 23 of the Marine Corps Marathon. With moon bounces, music by MILKSHAKE, face-painting, obstacle courses, and more, kids can play the afternoon away!

As volunteers, you have the opportunity to facilitate Crystal Run fun activities at the National Children’s Museum booth. NCM has an action-packed day planned, so you may work with kids making Shrinky Dink medals and juggling balls, blowing bubbles, creating chalk art masterpieces, or supervising the NCM Obstacle Course!

When: Arrive by 9:30 a.m. We accept volunteers for the whole day or even just a couple hours.

Where: Located outside the Crystal City Metrorail Station at the intersection of 18th Street and Crystal Drive in Arlington, Va.

How to get there: Consider the Metro as the best source of transportation. Road closures begin at 7 a.m., and parking will probably be sparse.

What to wear: Wear something warm and comfortable. We will be outside all day, so please remember to dress in layers. Hats and gloves may be a good idea! If you have AmeriCorps apparel, please try to incorporate that into your layers.

Who should come: Volunteering is recommended for high school students and up. Spread the word to friends, family, high school, and college students. NCM staff members are able to verify service hours for students.
