National Children's Museum Presents Second Annual Jump Rope Jump Off! at National Harbor

On October 3, 2009, families won't want to miss an entire afternoon of exhibition performances by nationally recognized double Dutch jump rope teams. Returning this year are the Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. (Sensational, Inspiring, Talented,  Youthful) Stars, a world-wide award-winning jump rope team from Prince George’s County, Md., that appeared in the original Disney movie, “Jump In” and performed at this year’s 2009 White House Easter Egg Roll with NCM; Kangaroo Kids, an all-star precision jump rope team from Howard County, Md., that has competed in the Junior Olympic Games; and the DC Retro Jumpers, an adult Double Dutch team from Washington, DC. Jump Off! newcomers Youth Sports Jump Rope FX, a Woodbridge, Va.-based competitive group of state, regional, national, and international champion jump rope athletes, and Skip Wizards, a group of national and Junior Olympic champions from Jefferson, Md., will also present unique performances throughout the day.

Children will have an opportunity to make their own custom jump ropes at the NCM Launch Zone at National Harbor (while supplies last), and learn the latest moves, like the “heel exchange” or the “leg-over cross,” from the jumping performers.

The day will also feature representatives from WPGC radio with prizes and other give-aways; discounts from NCM friends and partners at the Harbor, including reduced-rate Segway rides; appearances by DC-area sports team mascots the Washington Freedom’s Glory (from noon to 1:30 p.m.), also featuring soccer activities, and the Washington Kastles' Topspin (from 1:30 to 4 p.m.) at a Kastles' activities table; and regional foods, crafts, fashion, and much more at American Market at National Harbor.

National Harbor’s McCormick & Schmick’s will offer one free kids menu item for each adult entree purchased between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the festivities. (Limit one child ages 10 and under per adult [parent or guardian]; dine-in only.) Elevation Burger will give a free Honest Kids drink pouch (from the makers of Honest Tea) with the purchase of a burger and fries between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., while supplies last. CakeLove at National Harbor will give one free chocolate chip cookie to the first 100 kids ages 12 and under who “jump” with their new jump rope from the Launch Zone to the bakery. In addition, Aromi d'Italia Gelateria & Café will provide a free sampling of cookies at the Launch Zone (while supplies last) along with “buy one get one free” cookie coupons.
