The National Children's Museum Hosts Kids Euro Festival Workshops, Events

NCM excited to host Kids Euro Festival activities in October and November

The National Children's Museum (NCM) will hold a variety of events on Saturdays in October and November at the Launch Zone in participation with the fourth annual Kids Euro Festival. The festival, organized by Washington DC's 27 European Union embassies and cultural institutions, is a celebration of joy and friendship among children in the DC Metro region. Below are the highlights of NCM's participation in the festival, but please visit our calendar for a full listing of NCM's programs, including special programming presented in partnership with Prince George's County Memorial Library System.

Celebrate Slovakia on Saturday, October 15 at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Slovakian clown, Adyno, escaped from the circus to find his way and become a musician. In this clown show, he will present his juggling skills, surprising you with ingeniousness and wit. Come be a part of this spontaneous performance! Celebrate France on Saturday, October 15 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Get to know France's famous painter, Claude Monet! Our special guest, Eleanor Palm, will guide you along in this workshop to re-create Monet's work with watercolors and oil pastels. Registration is requried for this artist lead workshop, and can be completed online at www.kidseurofestival.org. This workshop is most appropriate for ages 4 to 10.

Celebrate Austria on Saturday, October 22 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Join NCM as we invite special guest Eleanor Palm to guide you along in this workshop to re-create the famous artist Gustav Klimt's artwork with craft collages, layering material to attain his characteristic golden effect on self portraits. Registration is required for this artist lead workshop, and can be completed online at www.kidseurofestival.org. This workshop is most appropriate for children ages 5 to 10.

Celebrate Spain on Saturday, October 30 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Members of Spain's theatre troupe, Bambalina, guide children along in this workshop in which the troupe creates a fairly complex theatrical show with hardly any materials - only imagination! Registration is required for this artist lead workshop, and can be completed online at www.kidseurofestival.org. Celebrate Romania on Saturday, November 5 from 11 a.m. to noon. Join Romanian Puck Puppet Theatre actors in a workshop where children are invited to participate in recreating the story of Pinocchio by imagining new sets, adventures, and even new characters! Registration is required for this artist lead workshop and can be completed online at www.kidseurofestival.org. This workshop is most appropriate for children ages 5-10.

Celebrate Italy on Saturday, November 5 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Special guest, Eleanor Palm, will take you to Italy to re-create the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci’s artwork. Tap into your own genius by crafting new inventions using wood, paper, and various mixed media! Registration is required for this artist lead workshop and can be completed online at www.kidseurofestival.org. This workshop is most appropriate for children ages 4-10.
