National Children's Museum Launch Zone Celebrates Second Birthday, April 30

Party will feature magician, face painting, family activities, crafts, giveaways, and more

The National Children’s Museum (NCM) will celebrate the second year of the Launch Zone on April 30. The Museum looks forward to celebrating once again with the families and children who make the Launch Zone what it is. Since opening on April 25, 2009, the 2,700-square-foot space has seen more than 55,000 visitors, who have prototyped exhibit components and programs and shared valuable feedback about what should be included in the new Museum. In addition, families throughout the region and from across the country have participated in numerous engaging events and activities designed around NCM’s mission—to inspire kids to care about and improve the world—and core content areas. 

This year, NCM will host its second “birthday party” featuring a magician, birthday hat decorating, a visit from a loveable Peep from the Peeps Store in National Harbor, face painting, rain stick making, party favors, and more. Wayne Alan, a well-known magician from Child Time Magic, will perform two shows, one at noon and another at 2 p.m. Each show is approximately 45 minutes long and full of spectacular and befuddling magic tricks.

Colorful mini-Frisbees will be handed out as party favors (while supplies last) and freshly popped popcorn will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To help NCM celebrate, several of the Launch Zone’s neighbors at National Harbor will offer free treats, special product discounts, and more:

• The Peeps Store will distribute fun stickers and coupons.
• NCM will raffle off two tickets for free Segway rides around National Harbor. 
• Ben & Jerry’s will distribute 100 “buy one cone, get a kid’s scoop free” coupons at the Launch Zone.
• CakeLove will give away coupons to buy discounted sweet treats at their bakery.
• Elevation Burger will offer small cookies and coupons for mini-milkshakes at the Launch Zone.
• Aromi d' Italia Café will provide a sampling of cookies and coupons for party goers.
