NCM Receives the Judith P. Hoyer Award for Outstanding Service to Children

The National Children’s Museum (NCM) proudly recognizes its entire education team for winning the Judith P. Hoyer Award for Outstanding Service to Children on April 17, 2010. The award was presented at the Prince George’s County Early Childhood Interagency 13th Annual Celebrate Children: Early Childhood Conference.

NCM, co-chair of the Early Childhood Conference this year, presented its recent publication, Family Literacy Projects on a Budget®- A Trainers’ Toolkit, and promoted one of the Museum’s key areas of engagement, Being Me (focused on physical and emotional health), with a demonstration table activity. The Family Literacy Projects on a Budget® - A Trainers’ Toolkit, offers resources, ideas, helpful tips, and suggestions to develop and present cost-effective literacy activities for family events, based on broad themes and familiar subject matter.

The Judith P. Hoyer Award for Outstanding Service to Children, created in 2004, is presented annually by the Interagency Committee to an individual or organization that has made “outstanding contributions to children.” The National Children’s Museum upholds a mission to inspire children to care about and improve the world. This award acknowledges NCM’s success in impacting the lives of children nationwide.

The award honors the late Mrs. Hoyer’s achievements, goals, and values, recognized in others. Mrs. Hoyer founded the Prince George’s County Early Childhood Interagency, held the position of coordinating supervisor of Early Childhood Education in Prince George’s County Public Schools, and co-chaired the Interagency Committee. NCM is honored to have received this wonderful recognition and is excited to continue to share valuable resources like the Family Literacy Projects on a Budget® with the community and country.
