The National Children's Museum Supports Nickelodeon at Worldwide Day of Play

NCM, along with 50 other national organizations, Nickelodeon, and Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign, sponsor a day of play and healthy living activities on the National Mall

The National Children’s Museum (NCM) announces that it will support Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign at Nickelodeon’s eighth annual Worldwide Day of Play (WWDOP) on September 24 on the Ellipse in Washington, DC. Together with Nickelodeon and many other partners, NCM’s staff will host an entire day of Parachute Play, designed to get kids outside, active, and having fun.

NCM’s Parachute Play Zone activities involve the large, colorful parachutes that children often play with in Physical Education class. Children will have the opportunity to play warm-up games, group games, and surprise games with NCM’s staff throughout the day. Parachute activities are a great way to be active, as they encourage cooperation, social interaction, a sense of rhythm, and strengthen the upper torso.

As part of WWDOP’s largest celebration yet, NFL Play 60, the MLB, PGA, Boys and Girls Clubs of America,  the National PTA, and many other organizations will provide activities during the day in addition to NCM. To provide entertainment and add to the celebration, many cast members from Nickelodeon’s most popular shows will be on site participating in the day’s events.

Information about the Worldwide Day of Play event in Washington, D.C. will be available online at www.worldwidedayofplay.com beginning Sept. 15.  The site will feature specifics about the location and schedules, videos and photos direct from the event posted throughout the day, as well as information on partner events and resources for planning your own day of play.  A special video series entitled "I Play Because" will also be showcased with stars from Nickelodeon’s top-rated series explaining why they like to play.  Additionally, there will be a mobile version of the WWDOP site at m.nick.com.  For real time updates on WWDOP activities, follow @NickDayofPlay.
