NCM Announces DC Green Festival Rain Barrel Winners

On October 10 and 11, the National Children’s Museum (NCM) participated in the DC Green Festival’s Kids’ Zone, offering a variety of eco-friendly family activities. The Museum’s Rain Barrel Workshops proved to be a success, especially among three families who won their very own rain barrel! The lucky winners are Pat Ulrich and family, Takisha Reece and family, and Cathy Howe and family.

NCM and the Accokeek Foundation presented this hands-on, engaging workshop where kids could get up close and personal with rain barrels. The barrels were beautifully transformed by children as they created leaves of vinyl to decorate” tree trunks” on the containers. Scrap adhesive vinyl was donated courtesy of Signs By Tomorrow in Arlington for the second consecutive year.

More than 102 festival participants entered the giveaway drawing to win one of the three decorated barrels for their yard at home. The winners are all excited to receive these rain barrels, not just because their homes will be greener, but because they are so creatively decorated by kids in the community.

The National Children’s Museum regularly participates in the annual DC Green Festival, a celebration of sustainability offering something for everyone. The Festival includes kid and teen activities, a green film festival, live music, 150 speakers and workshops, a green marketplace with more than 350 local and national green businesses, and dozens of community programs. Other activities hosted by NCM were Wearable Water Bottle Jewelry and Creations and How Will the Museum be Green?
